17.07.2011

On Saturday the 18th June, a boat, a container and a tractor and about 200 kg of waste of any kind from the bottom of the sea floor in front of Porto Petro collected by divers of the Petro Divers, with the help of the organization Semdesa (Santanyí Municipal Services) and the Civil Protection Volunteers Santanyi.

This is an initiative that was first called into being in 2009 and is today one of the events of the program in honor of St. Juan Festival in Porto Petro. This activity is made possible by the selfless participation of Petro Divers diving school, which pick up the garbage every year on the seabed and thus clean off the coast of Porto Petro. Through this annual activity is less and less waste sits on the seabed. were there in the past years 500 kg, it has now gone to 200 kg back. This is naturally connected with the fact that the collector Petro Divers dive at each of the junk they find in the sea.

The cleaning started at nine in the morning. A group of divers began their action in the bays Caló dels morts homes, Caló de sa Torre, Caló de ses Pedret and Al Minor, where they collected all kinds of waste, such as Construction debris, plastic, glass, cans and other inorganic wastes.
During the first hour of a sunken boat, a container and tractor tires was recovered from the sea.

The Councillor for Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries Michel Contesti, and the municipal manager of Semdesa, Mr. Josep Burguera, have been personally present in order to see firsthand how the waste from the bottom of the sea have been removed. This year, the municipal authorities were very satisfied, because the volume of waste that was less than in other years.

During the subsequent meal at La Paella Caracola all agreed that this action is carried out next year again and all hope it will not come back 200 kg garbage, but hopefully much less.

Thank you so much for all of our helpers!
